Terms of Use
Clinical Voice · Effective October 21, 2026
Important. Clinical Voice is a communication aid. It is not a medical device, does not give medical advice, and is not a substitute for a qualified medical interpreter. Machine translation can be wrong. In an emergency, call your local emergency number first.
1. These terms
These terms apply when you use Clinical Voice ("the app"), published by an independent developer based in British Columbia, Canada ("we", "us"). They add to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which also applies. By using the app you agree to both. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
2. What the app is
The app helps people who don't share a language talk during healthcare visits. It turns speech into text, translates it, and offers ready-made phrases, a pain scale, a body map and, on supported devices, AI-written summaries and SOAP note drafts. All of this runs on your device using Apple's on-device technology.
3. What the app is not
- Not an interpreter. Translations are produced automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete or miss nuance, tone or context. For anything important (a diagnosis, informed consent, medicines, procedures or discharge instructions), confirm with a qualified medical interpreter whenever one is available. In some places the law entitles patients to a qualified interpreter; the app does not replace that right.
- Not medical advice. The app does not diagnose, treat or recommend treatment. Decisions about care belong to the patient and their care team.
- Not for emergencies. Never let the app delay calling for help or getting care.
- Not clinically validated. The built-in medical glossary, phrases and their translations have not been independently reviewed by clinicians or certified interpreters.
4. AI-written content
Summaries, recaps and SOAP note drafts are generated by an on-device language model from a translated conversation. They can miss or misstate details. Treat them as drafts: read and correct them before relying on them or adding them to any record.
5. Healthcare professionals
If you use the app in a professional capacity:
- You remain responsible for your clinical judgment and for communicating with patients in line with your professional standards.
- You're responsible for using the app within your organization's policies and applicable law, including privacy law (for example PIPEDA, provincial health-privacy laws such as BC's Personal Information Protection Act, or HIPAA in the United States), consent requirements and language-access obligations.
- The app gives us no access to patient information, and we do not act as a service provider, processor or business associate for your organization. Your organization must decide whether the app is appropriate for its use.
- The audit trail is tamper-evident: it can show that records were altered, but it cannot prevent alteration and is not a substitute for your organization's own records.
6. Your responsibilities
- Use the app lawfully and only for its intended purpose.
- Make sure the other person agrees to the conversation being translated by the app.
- Keep your device secure; anyone with access to it can see saved visits in Personal mode.
- Check that translations make sense, and ask for clarification when something seems wrong.
7. Purchases
Pro subscriptions, the lifetime purchase and tips are sold and billed by Apple through your Apple Account. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in iOS Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. Features may change over time; we'll try to keep paid features available for as long as the app is offered.
8. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how the app handles information. In short, we don't collect any.
9. No warranty
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy of translations, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that language packs or on-device models will be available on every device.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from reliance on translations, summaries or other content produced by the app, including decisions about medical care. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim, or CAD $50, whichever is greater. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your rights under consumer-protection laws that apply to you.
11. Changes and ending
We may update these terms. If a change is material, the app will ask you to acknowledge the new terms before you continue. You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without affecting any mandatory protections of the place where you live. Disputes will be heard in the courts of British Columbia unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
